Abstract
This paper presents a study of the role of network characteristics in determining alliance formation and performance. This study assesses the importance of firm's network resources with alliance performance and network characteristics as determinants of their alliance decisions. In this paper, we divided network characteristics into two groups. One group is firm level factors such as alliance numbers, alliance network size and diversity. The other group is individual level factors such as size of top management team and their prior job experience. The results confirm that the size of top management team, alliance numbers and network diversity have significant impact on alliance formation and performance.
