본고에서는 도시 거주 시각장애인을 대상으로 이동성과 공간인지에 관한 심층 인터뷰 결과를 근거이론과심상지도로 분석하고 이를 토대로 시각장애인의 이동성 향상 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 먼저 인터뷰 내용에 근거이론을 적용하여 ‘시각장애인 이동의 제약과 어려움’이라는 중심현상과 중심현상에 영향을 주는 인과적·맥락적·중재적 조건 및 작용·상호작용 전략, 그리고 각각의 조건들의 복합작용을 통해 얻어진 ‘통행방법과 공간인지’의 차이라는 결과를 도출하였다. 다음으로 응답자를 이동성 정도에 따라 유형화하고 이들의 심상지도 비교 결과를 바탕으로 보행과 이동성을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 제안하였다. 그 방안으로서 독립보행이 가능한 시각장애인의 경우, 정보화 교육 확대, 보행에 필요한 무장애 도로와 편의설비의 확대, 점자지도의 보급 확대가, 독립보행이 가능하지만안내보행을 선호하는 경우, 전문화된 보행훈련과 직업재활교육의 제공이, 마지막으로 안내보행만 가능한 경우, 기초재활 프로그램의 강화, 공동생활시설의 운영 지원, 활동보조인 이용시간 확대 등이 필요하다. 시각장애인은 일상생활과 이동을 포함한 기본적인 사회활동에서 가장 큰 제약을 받고 있는 소외계층으로서 장애인 개개인의 속성 차이에 따라 삶의 질과 이동성을 개선시키기 위한 방안 모색이 지속적으로 이루어질 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study explored the mobility and spatial cognitive map knowledge of persons with visual impairments to suggest ways to improve them. As a result of the application of the grounded theory to the contents of the interviews, related concepts were identified, which consisted of the causal, contextual, and interventional conditions that affect the central phenomenon of ‘restriction and difficulty of movement of the visually impaired’ and the consequences of their ‘walking methods and spatial cognition.’ Next, some ways to improve the mobility of the visually impaired based on the analyses of the cognitive map knowledge of respondents categorized according to the degree of mobility were suggested as follows. First, for the persons with visual impairments who are capable of independent walking, it is needed to expand information technology education, barrier-free sidewalks, and the supply of braille maps; second, for those who can walk independently but prefer walking with a sighted guide, to provide specialized gait walking training and vocational rehabilitation education; and finally, for those who are only capable of walking with guidance, to strengthen basic rehabilitation programs, to support community living facilities, and to increase the time of assistance provided by caregivers. It is necessary to continue to seek ways to improve the quality of life and mobility of the visually impaired as they are the marginalized persons restricted in basic social activities and mobility.
