Abstract
The purpose of this article is to search for an alternative plan of the standard language policy by providing an analysis of the various problems of current policy related to the standard language. Firstly, this article points out some frequent misunderstandings about history, reality and necessity of the standard language. And then, diverse critique and questioning on the current standard language policy are commented. As the next step, it is necessary to examine the so-called new standard language policies(plural standard language policy and common language policy) presented as an alternative plan of current policy. This examination show us its logical and practical limits as well as its significance. Finally, this article is concluded by asking the reconsideration on governmental initiated standard language policy and by proposing to convert ‘antagonistic logic’ between standard and non-standard to ‘phased logic’ (basic → extended or advanced) or ‘circumstantial logic’ (official - private).
