초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of antisemitism and the status of Jews in the contemporary French society. Jews were minority in number and had been oppressed in history. But they are not oppressed minority any more after Holocaust in the western society. An accident occurred on June 2008 supports this argument sufficiently. On that day, a Jewish youngster was beaten by a group of Arab youths in Paris. The political arena and the mass media defined this affair as an antisemitic event without accurate inquiry. Even French government asked a pardon to the Jewish community. The French main society would not responded to the event like this, if the beaten youngster was an Arab. Nowadays, among the racial atrocities in France, antisemitic behavior is the most frequent one. Closely connected to the Israel’s attack on Palestine, this so-called anti-Israel or anti-Zionism is distinguished from the classic antisemitism and the biological racism before the World War Ⅱ. Nevertheless, Jews are better protected by French law than any other minorities, and they are not the most oppressed minority any more in the contemporary French society.
