Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the strategy games of Western history and ultimately seek the direction of Korean history games. The subjects of the study are <Total War: Rome 2> and <Civilization 5> which are considered to be both popular and historical. In terms of the realism of the times, these games tended to naturally unravel the order of the wars by embedding it into the rules of the game. The players were given a choice and not allowed to escape the limitations of the times. The variation in the compilation or the development of the siege warfare has been adapted into a rating improvement, that is, an advanced form that the player can acquire, rather than a simple explanatory deployment method. On the tactical side, it is up to the player to decide when to deploy a combat deployment or to deploy and withdraw troops. Since most of the tactics the player uses freely are those that were actually used in ancient battles, they have historical realism in the style of combat. If historical realism is included after thorough examination, the games can instill a correct sense of history into the player. But it is important to give players discretion, and at the same time embedding rules to know historical events and the process of transition. We should consider creating game rules that do not go beyond the limits of the times while instilling uncertainty in play, a sense of challenge and crisis, and a sense of accomplishment.
