Abstract

This paper aims to explore the meaning of homosexuality and some ways of solving conflicts on the basis of the authority of the Bible. One of the major reasons for the recent resurgence of academic interest in the fin de sicle in the last decade or so is the importance of the era to the formation of modern sexuality, and particularly same-sex identity. In the past homosexuality was “the sin whose name should not be mentioned,” but now gay marriage is a hot topic these days. The fact is, the homosexual world is rife with revolutionary rhetoric, and the radical agenda of these few activists is all too open and obvious. Moreover, it has been proposed that even in the Church Community they should reappraise the position of traditional moral theology on the question of homosexuality.For most Christians the Bible remains the ultimate source of guidance and inspiration. When a controversial topic arises, Christians will come to an end once the Bible is quoted. A few passage appear to address directly the issue of homosexuality. They are the story of the destruction of Sodom, a number of prohibitions in Mosaic Law, and statements by the Apostle Paul. Most Christians regard the overall negative tone in these texts as proof that God utterly condemns homosexuality or at least homosexual behavior as abomination.
