Abstract
This study endeavors to analyze Antigone’s filial piety through in which she honors her father, Oedipus, by combining the ideas of Yeats’s filial piety in Sophocles’ Oedipus at Colonus with those of Oriental filial piety in The Analects of Confucius, The Golden Mean, and The Great Learning. Sophocles, who created Oedipus at Colonus, translated by Yeats, was a great Greek dramatist who lived at the same time as Confucius, but was not directly influenced by Confucianism. However, Antigone applied the principals of Oriental filial piety in Oedipus at Colonus. Since Oedipus became blind after arriving at Colonus from Thebe, Antigone honors her father and faithfully takes care of him with filial piety until his death. She experiences confrontational conflicts in the introduction, amounts to harmonize with the situations, and fulfills her moral behavior. This literature plays an important role in expounding on the philosophical ideals of filial piety in various ways.
