Abstract

This study reviewed An Jae-hong's understanding of Western․American situation based on the data related to his international situation that were recently excavated. An Jae-hong viewed the international situation of 1920s as a cross conflict of imperialist powers, the Soviet Union and Orient national movements. Therefore, this study covers An Jae-hong's recognition on the formation of Western powers' national security cooperation system, conflicts inside the powers and their responses to the Soviet Union and colonial nations or weak nations. An Jae-hong thought that the Western powers cooperated and established Locarno Pact by necessity of maintaining imperialistic vested interests on the Orient and joint response to the Soviet Union in 1924 and 1925. However, he considered this pack as a temporary compromise, so he thought it couldn't secure permeant peace. That because there were still conflicting relations surrounding hegemony inside the powers. As he witnessed intense competition about disarmament among the powers, he thought the ignition of a world war would be the new expansion of armaments caused by non-assimilation among imperialist nations. An Jae-hong regarded Russia as one of the three powers in the international situation. However, he pointed out it shouldn't be overlooked that the socialism of Russia contained nationalistic expansion desire, and he claimed that the essence of the international situation was a sharpening conflict between capitalist nations and the proletariat. He also thought that the Western powers with England centered raced to make desperate efforts in order to suppress colonial weak nations' challenges and to maintain vested interests. He judged that the powers that relied on governing and plundering weak nations would face decline phase sooner or later.
