1907년 대구에서 작성・배포한 국채보상운동 취지서의 종류와 특징

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to reveal the types and characteristics of the National debt repayment movement prospectus written and distributed in Daegu in 1907, which has not been properly reviewed until now. A summary of what was revealed is as follows. First, there were a total of four types of the National debt repayment movement prospectus written and distributed in Daegu in 1907. ①Daegugwangmunsa's 「National debt 13million-won repayment prospectus(國債一千萬圓報償趣旨)」(「the 1st prospectus」) prepared on January 31, 1907, ②「The the National debt repayment prospectus(國債報償趣旨書)」(「the 2nd prospectus) revised by Daedonggwangmunhoe in mid-February, ③「The National debt collateral prospectus(國債擔報趣旨書)」 prepared by the ‘Daegugumyeonsangchaehoe’ on February 21st, and ④「The Public Document(通文)」 prepared at the same time by the same organization. Although these four types of prospectus have much in common in terms of the purpose, such as the necessity and methodology of national debt repayment, they were clearly separate documents with partial differences in description due to proofreading, revision, and correction of passages as necessary. Second, 「the 1st prospectus」 written by DaeguGwangmunsa was a document widely distributed in the name of President Kim Gwang-je and Vice President Seo Sang-don. In this 「the 1st prospectus」 announced on January 31, 1907, including Gwangmunsa employee 14people participated as promoters. The outline of this prospectus can be summarized the main note passed down to later prospectus and became an immutable indicator of the national debt repayment movement. In addition, this document was published in the DaehanMaeil Shinbo on February 21, 1907, making it known throughout the country that the national debt repayment movement was first initiated in Daegu, and became a catalyst for the spread and participation of the movement. Third, 「the 2nd prospectus」, which was a revised version of the 「1st prospectus」 by Daedonggwangmunhoe, was announced around mid-February 1907 under the title 「The the National debt repayment prospectus」. The promoters were 16 people in total, led by Gwangmunsa President Kim Gwang-je and Vice President Seo Sang-don, who were the main promoters, as well as Daedonggwangmunhoe Chairman Park Hae-ryeong, Vice Chairman Kim Gwang-je, and association members. However, this is a change in which four of the 16 promoters of the 「the 1st prospectus」. 「The 2nd prospectus」 was a new document written by changing the format, introducing a new title, and adding partial corrections and revisions to the wording. Fourth, on February 21, the Daegugumyeonsangchaehoe simultaneously prepared and announced two types of statements titled 「The National debt collateral prospectus」 and 「The public document」. These two types of prospectuses inherited the purpose of the previous 「1st and 2nd prospectus」, but were characterized by assuming different virtual readerships. The former targeted the majority of the public by using simple sentences, while the latter used sentences in a pure Chinese writing style that quoted passages from Confucian scriptures or historical events. Local intellectuals based at local Confucian schools(鄕校) were selected as the readership. These two types of statements were mainly distributed to 40 local schools in the Gyeongbuk, contributing to the revitalization of the national debt repayment movement in the Gyeongbuk region.
