Abstract

Ling Shuhua was important short story author of the twentieth century. Ling Shuhua had spent some years in Japan. During her life and study in Japan, Ling Shuhua had realized and understood the Japanese culture in many aspect. Ling Shuhua’s view of Japanese literature includes Japanese classical literature and modern Japanese literature. “Sorrow for objects” is an important ancient literature trend in Japan. 　“Sympathetic spirit” is Chinese important ancient literature theory.　There are many similarities from form to content between “sorrow for　objects” and “sympathetic spirit”.　Ling Shuhua’s novels have a peculiar beauty of tragedy, which is similar to the traditional　aesthetic inclination of sorrow for objects in Japanese literature. Based on the analysis of the “sorrow for objects” aesthetic view and language expression, it reveals the influence of Japanese culture over Ling Shuhua’s novels. Ling Shuhua’s aesthetic aspect of literature transcends Chinese traditional aesthetic scope. Her study of Japanese classical literature enriches her literary inditement, her study of modern Japanese literature, especially Japanese romanticism, reflects the unique character of her works from the two different Chinese and Japanese literary traditions.
