≪池北偶談≫ 卷1＜談故 1＞의 번역과 주해(1)

Abstract

Chibeioutan (池北偶談) is the ‘biji (筆記)’ of Wang Shizhen (王士禛), who was a scholar and literary man of early Qing Period. It is one of the representative works of biji in Qing Period, and its contents cover various fields such as literature, scholarship, history, institution, and customs. The entire volume of Chibeioutan consists of 26 books and 1,292 articles, which are composed of “Tangu (談故)”, “Tanxian (談獻)”, “Tanyi (談藝)”, and “Tanyi (談異)”. Chibeioutan has not yet been translated and properly annotated into Korean and modern Chinese. So we ultimately aim to translate entire volumes of the Chibeioutan into Korean with detailed annotations on the basis of the 2006 edition published by Zhonghua Book Company. This paper is the first step of the project, which includes a brief introduction to the book and a translation and annotation about the preface of Chibeioutan written by Wang Shizhen and ten articles on “Tanggu 1”. Through this work we can provide the background information relevant to the book, such as author’s purpose of writing, outline of the book, process of publication, and so on. In addition, through the 10 articles contained in “Tanggu 1”, we are able to examine the contents of the office system, the examination system, diplomacy, and so on. This book describes a lot of articles that were not covered in history and meaningful criticism in literary history. So, it contains important data in studying of early Qing period. Therefore, this paper will contribute to the revitalization of the research by providing translation and annotation of Chibeioutan as important reference materials for related research.
