제주4･3생존자의 트라우마와 미술치료적 접근

본 연구는 사례분석을 통한 질적연구로 제주4․3생존자의 삶에 관한 의미들을 이들이 들려주는 생애사와 직접 그린 미술표현을 토대로 분석하고 이해하는 것이다. 4․3생존자의 생애사와 미술표현으로부터 다음과 같이 두 가지 결과를 발견할 수 있었다. 첫째, 제주4․3이 일어난 지 60여 년의 세월이 흘렀으나 트라우마로 인한 후유증은 현재까지 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 생애사와 미술치료적 접근은 제주4․3생존자가 삶을 회고하고 심리적 평정을 회복하도록 돕는 데 효과적이었다. 이상의 결과에서 얻은 결론은 생애사와 미술치료적 접근이 제주4․3생존자의 뇌리 속에 정리되지 않은 채 존재하는 트라우마의 기억들을 안전하게 표출할 수 있도록 돕는 데 효과적임을 시사한다는 점이며, 나아가 기존의 제주4․3 관련 구술 증언들이 역사적 진실을 밝히기 위한 연구에 중점을 두었다면, 본 연구는 개인의 심층심리를 살펴본 기초연구라는 점에 그 의의를 둘 수 있다.
Abstract
This qualitative case-study analyzed the survivors’ own account of their lives and the expressions in their drawings. The study found two findings. First, the survivors still suffered from the painful memories even in 60 years after the outbreak of the Jeju April 3rd uprising. Second, the survivors’ own account of their life histories and art therapy treatment contributed to them reflecting on what happened to them and gaining emotional stability. The above findings indicate that life history telling and art therapy were effective in helping the Jeju uprising survivors express their traumatized memories without hurting them. The significance of this study is that while other oral testimonials regarding the Jeju April 3rd uprising focused mainly on shedding light on the historical truth, this study focused on looking at individual psychology on a deeper level.
