Zhang Ailing’s Media Politics in the 1940s

본 논문은 중국의 유명한 여작가 장애령의 신문, 잡지 등 인쇄 매체 정치학을 다룬다. 장애령은 원앙호접파 등 소위 대중작가와 5,4 문학 등으로 대표되던 “고급” 또는 “순문학 작가”라는 이분법에 도전한 대표적인 작가로 알려져 왔다. 그녀의 이러한 문학세계와 문학관은 다름 아닌 인쇄매체의 변화와 이러한 변화를 깊이 숙지한 작가의 숙련된 매체관과 매체적 실습이라고 볼 수도 있다. 특히 그녀를 작가라는 규정으로 접근하기 보다는 당시 상해에서 이미 뚜렷한 사회적 그룹을 형성한 “전문직업인” 군의 한 명으로 접근하면 그녀의 미디어 실습과 문학, 정치관을 보다 쉽게 이해할 수 있다. 당시 상해의 인쇄매체 시장은 상업적으로 이미 상당히 발전되고 다변화되어 있었으며 2차세계대전 중 독일 나치주의, 일본 제국주의, 국민당, 공산당의 갈등과 투쟁으로 매우 복잡한 정치적 양상을 보여주고 있었다. 이 논문은 장애령이 이러한 복잡한 정치, 경제적 특징을 보여 주는 신문, 잡지 시장에서 편집인들과 어떤 관계를 맺었는지를 살피고 또한 그녀의 의지와 무관하게 그녀가 얽히게 되는 여러 분규 등이 갖는 의미 등을 밝혀 낸다. 출판시장에서 여작가가 갖는 특수한 위치에 대하여 깊이 인식하고 있던 장애령은 이에 이용당하기 보다는 적극적으로 이용하고 조정하여 자신이 원하는 이미지를 광범위하게 순환시키는 데 성공한다. 장애령의 미디어 실습은 “스펙타클”화 되어 가는 사회에 대한 이해에서 비롯된다고 볼 수 있고 공적 영역에서 소비되던 이 프로페셔널 여작가 이미지는 “미디어 스펙타클”이라고 할 수 있겠다.
