This paper translates and annotates the seven poems of Li Bai’s “Huaigu”. “Huaigu” started the first poem in retrospect to Xishi. His love for Xishi was extraordinary. Second poem described an anecdote related to the historical person Wang Xizhi. Next poem portrayed beautifully the figure of Shangyuan Furen, a person in myth. Subsequent two poems coincidently related directly or indirectly with Xishi. In Wuyue(吳越), Yuezhong(越中) and at Sutai(蘇臺) etc., anywhere related with her, he think of her without exception. In Hubei Xiangyang he go to Xianshan, like Chen, Ziyang whom he respected, he retrospect hero time past and present. Furthermore he conjure up a mythical woman. In final poem he met historical figures in Handan. In this poem he described the achievements and heroism of the heroes who played here at Warring States Period. Like this his retrospect was that transcends time and space, likewise was beyond history and mythology. The sorrow of Li Bai is not the vanity or brevity of life itself. In reality, it is the worthlessness of life that can not even build a small success and time flies without success.
