성인자녀의 치매부모 돌봄경험에 관한 현상학적 연구: 심층 면담의 대화로서 이미지 활용

본 연구는 치매노인과 함께 거주하는 성인자녀의 치매부모 돌봄 경험 현상과 본질을 규명하여 치매 노인을 돌보는 가족에 대한 이해의 기반을 찾고자 하였다. 이를 위해 가정에서 치매 부모와 함께 거주하며 돌보고 있는 연구참여자 6명과 7차 개인 면담을 실시하였다. 면담은 돌봄 경험에 대한 심층 면접과 연구참여자의 미술작업, 연구자의 반응그림 작업으로 이루어졌다. 자료의 분석은 van Manen의 해석학적 현상학적 연구 방법에 따라 신체성, 시간성, 공간성, 관계성이라는 네 개의 실존적 의미 축을 기반으로 돌봄 현상이 내포하고 있는 주제를 발견하고 경험의 의미를 해석하였다. 연구 결과, 53개의 하위 주제와 19개의 경험의 의미구조, 그리고 6개의 본질적 구조를 도출하였으며 치매부모 돌봄 경험에는 ‘다가감’, ‘접촉함’, ‘견뎌냄’, ‘헤아림’, ‘감응함’, ‘몸소 살아냄’이라는 본질적 의미가 존재하였다. 본 연구의 돌봄 경험의 본질을 통해 본 성인자녀의 치매 부모 돌봄의 의미는 첫째, 성인자녀의 치매부모 돌봄은 실존적 삶의 한 방식이며, 둘째, 인간 존재 방식인 거주함의 실현이며, 셋째, 인간 내면의 선으로서 덕의 실천이었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대하여 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to provide a basis for understanding family members’ caring for elderly people with dementia by examining the phenomenon of the caregiving experience of their adult children residing with them and elucidating the hidden meanings of the experience. For this purpose, seven personal interviews were conducted with 6 participants who lived with and cared for their dementia parents at home. The interview consisted of an in-depth interview about the care experience, the research participant's artwork, and the researcher's response drawing. Data analysis was conducted to identify the themes hidden in the phenomenon of caregiving experience and interpret the meanings of the experience based on the four dimensions of existential meanings like corporeality, temporality, spatiality and relationality according to the hermeneutical phenomenological research method suggested by van Manen. Data analysis yielded 53 sub-themes, 19 experiential meaning structures, and 6 essential structures. The essential meanings of the caregiving experience of adult children caring for elderly patients with dementia were identified as follows: ‘approaching,’ ‘contacting,’ ‘enduring,’ ‘understanding,’ ‘responding,’ and ‘personally living through it.' Through analyzing their caregiving experience, the meanings of caring their parents with dementia were derived as follows. First, their caregiving for their parents with dementia was a way of existential life. Second, it was the reality of dwelling as a way of human existence. Third, it was the practice of humanity as an inner human goodness. Based on these research results, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed.
