Abstract
This study was a narrative inquiry of how the responsive art experience of an art therapist in a continuous triadic relationship could construct stories and meanings in a two-way therapeutic relationship. To conduct this autobiographical research, the researcher looked at the records of 18 educational analyses and response works in therapeutic relationships with an art therapy expert, as well as the records of counselling and response work in therapeutic relationships with four clients. As a result, through the process of constructing and analysing narratives through reaction art, a total of five meanings of experience were generated: ‘The vividly alive me in reaction work,’ ‘Understanding the client more deeply,’ ‘Moving between the past and the present,’ ‘Recalling the therapist's reverse transition,’ and ‘Bringing awareness to what was missed.’ This inquiry process made the art therapist realise the new therapeutic meaning and value of the experience of working with a client in a two-way therapeutic relationship, and the academic importance of the experience of working with a client in a two-way therapeutic relationship. Based on the results of this study, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed.
