초록
In Late Latin grammars the inflections are described as the change of the final sounds or syllables of a word without any reference to stems or endings. In Donatus’s influential grammars the nouns are categorized into subtypes according to the final sound of the ablative singular endings and in Priscianus’ work the verbal inflections are explained with the notions of the deletion, addition, insertion and transformation of sounds. These kinds of approach to the inflection result from the fact that the Late Latin grammarians regarded the word as the smallest unit of meaning which cannot be further divided into any meaningful element.
Abstract
In Late Latin grammars the inflections are described as the change of the final sounds or syllables of a word without any reference to stems or endings. In Donatus’s influential grammars the nouns are categorized into subtypes according to the final sound of the ablative singular endings and in Priscianus’ work the verbal inflections are explained with the notions of the deletion, addition, insertion and transformation of sounds. These kinds of approach to the inflection result from the fact that the Late Latin grammarians regarded the word as the smallest unit of meaning which cannot be further divided into any meaningful element.
