This essay is a report on the education and research in Western Classical Studies in South Korea by introducing the Korean Society of Greco-Roman Studies, which was founded in 1986. In sum, the education and research in classical studies in Korea is still unbalanced among its branches and is still at the early stage in terms of the achievements in research. The Korean academic circle in classical studies is now facing some tasks that are not easy to fulfill. We need to prepare necessary institutional foundation for supporting education and research in classical literature and archaeology. More translations and commentaries of major works in philosophy and history should be published to allow easier access to them. In addition, the Korean academic circle in classical studies, especially in ancient philosophy should strengthen the academic exchanges with the international academic circles.
