정보기술의 발달이 19세기 산업혁명 이후 형성된 우리 사회와 공간에 큰 변화 를 가져오고 있는 것만은 분명하다. 그러나 그 변화의 방향은 대단히 논쟁적이다. 이 글은 정보화가 사회와 공간에 미치는 영향에 대한 거시적인 담론보다 구체적 인 경제활동의 변화를 통하여 정보기술에 의한 도시공간의 재구성을 좀 더 미시 적인 차원에서 고찰하였다. 정보기술의 적용이 생산체계의 측면에서 기업 입지의 유연성을 가져오지만 현상적으로는 대도시와 그 주변지역에의 선택적 집중을 가 져오고 있으며 사무활동의 분화와 더불어 반복적 사무활동의 분산이 나타나고 있 지만 의사결정이나 기획·구상과 관련된 핵심 사무활동은 여전히 도심 집중의 경 향을 갖는다. 도시 경제활동 영역에서 정보화의 영향이 가장 두드러진 분야는 유 통과 금융서비스 활동으로 일상적인 서비스 활동의 모습은 자동화되어 기계로 대 체되거나 전자공간에서 수행됨으로써 물리적 실물공간에서 사라져가는 추세이다. 아울러 개인적 차원에서도 근로양식의 유연화는 근로 장소와 근로시간을 특정하 지 않는 경계의 이완이 나타난다. 그러나 이와 같이 전자화된 도시공간은 여전히 물리적 도시공간에 고착되어 있다. 여전히 고정성과 고착성에 의해 제약을 받는 다. 도시의 전자공간 역시 산업사회의 사회문화적 틀과 물리적 하부구조의 전제 하에 구축될 수 있기 때문이다.
Abstract
It is certain that information technologies are bringing about significant changes of society and space built up since the Industrial Revolution in nineteen century. Nevertheless, the direction of changes is still a problematic matter. The aim of this article is concretely to consider the reconfiguration of urban space in the Information Age through analyzing the impacts of information technologies on economic activities. Information technologies have given flexibility of location to companies in an aspect of production system. However, information technologies have accelerated the selective concentration of location to large cities and their nearby areas Similarly front office activities have a strong trend of concentration to downtowns of large cities, while some back office activities are de-concentrating from inner cities in metropolitan areas with diversification of office activities. retail and banking activities are outstanding in the impact of information technologies on urban economy. Their routine activities are annihilated in physical real space with information technologies. In addition, flexible work place and time is also appearing in personal working system. This means that the border between work place and home is coming loose. However, such electronic urban space is stiil rooted on physical space. It is because that the physical infrastructure of urban space and the socio-cultural frame of industrial society are a prerequisite for the construction of former.
