Abstract
An Analytical Review of Environment Justice Research: The Issues and TrendYi, In-HeeThe environment justice approach was pioneered in the USA by civil rights acti-vists as an important dimension of environmental and public health policy in the United States. Environmental justice (EJ) means equal aces to a clean environment and equal protection from posible environmental harm irrespective of race, income, class, or any other differentiating feature of socioeconomic status. It includes the principle that all people, regardles of race or socioeconomic status, are entitled to equal protection under environmental laws and to participate in environmental deci-sion making in their comunity. EJ research seeks to determine whether marginal and/or minority groups bear a disproportionate burden of environmental problems, and whether planning policy and practice afecting the environment are equitable and fair. A fundamental ques-tion in environment justice research concerns environmental equity - whether the spatial distribution of environmental risk is indeed equitable among diferent racial and socioeconomic groups. This study analyzes the research issues, the research trend, and the characteristics of the environment justice researches. The trends of the environmental justice analysis shifted from positivism-dominated approach to combined positivism-participatory research, from the single discrimination/racism model to multidisciplinary perspectivesuch as urban struc-ture, land use, and suburbanization, from the hazardous facility proximity-based paradigm to the exposure/risk-based, from statics analysis to both statics and dynamics analysis such as longitudinal, historic aproach, and the change of the comunity.
