Abstract
Sindongjinbyeo is a new japonica rice cultivar developed from a cross between Hwayeongbyeo and YR13604Acp22 line by the rice breeding team of National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES), RDA, in 1999. This cultivar has a large grain and about 121 days of growth duration from transplanting to harvest. It has about 80 cm tall culm. Milled rice of Sindongjinbyeo are translucent and relatively clear with non-glutinous endosperm. It has about 18.6% of amylose content and better palatability of cooked rice than Dongjinbyeo. This cultivar shows moderate resistance to leaf blast and resistance to stripe virus disease. The yield performance of Sindongjinbyeo is about 5.96 ton/ha which is about 14% higher than Dongjinbyeo in milled rice under normal fertilizer level. This cultivar is adaptable to ordinary single cropping in the southern plain area of Korea.
