Abstract
Saesangjubyeo is a japonica rice cultivar developed from the cross between Junghwabyeo and Sambaegbyeo at the Sangju Substation of National Yeongnam Agricultural Experiment Station, R.D.A in 2001. Saesangjubyeo is early matured with July 28 at the heading date in ordinary season. It has erect plant type and lodging tolerance with 79cm in culm length. Milled rice of this variety is translucent endosperm and medium grain, the palatability of cooked grain is excellent. It is resistant to leaf blast, but susceptible to bacterial blight, virus diseases and major insect pests. The yield performance of Saesangjubyeo is about 5.77 ton/ha in milled rice, under the standard fertilizer level, during three year local adaptability trials, which was about 2 percent higher than Odaebyeo. It would be highly adaptable to the southern and mid-northern in mid-mountainous area of Korea.
