Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the efficient regeneration condition for perilla (Perilla frutescens cv. Yeupcildllggae). Leaf, cotyledon and hypocotyl explants were excised from perilla plants 10-12 days after germination and subjected to regenerate on different media containing different concentration of BA (6-benzyladenine) and NAA (-naphthalene acetic acid). The MS basal medium supplemented with 1 mg/L BA, 0.1 mg/L NAA and 3% sucrose was the most effective in obtaining normal shoots from hypocotyl and cotyledon explants. Although it was possible to obtain regenerated shoots from all explants used, the leaf explants showed the highest shoot regeneration rate of 100%. The addition of silica gel to the medium to induce temporary dry condition was not effective for improving shoot regeneration in perilla.
