Abstract
Jopummil was bred from the cross between SW88416-B-0 with the early maturity and short culm, and the F1 hybrid between OR8500494P and Bezostaya in 1990. It was examined as Suwon 284 in the regional yield trials(RYT) from 1999 to 2001. It was a near-erect plant type, and its culm length was 64cm and slightly shorter than that of Geurumil, the check variety. Though its grain size is smaller than that of Geurumil, its test weight is heavier since the grain plumpness is better than that of Geurumil. During the RYT, Jopummil was the earliest among Korean wheat varieties by showing eight to ten days earlier in heading date than Geurumil in paddy and upland. It was also earlier by 2~3 days than Olbori, the check variety of barley. However, it was latter matured by 1~3 days than Olbori due to the delayed anthesis of wheat. As compared to Geurumil, Jopummil was earlier matured by 5~6 days. The growth habit of Jopummil was similar to the facultative type. Jopummil exhibited good noodle property with 90.8% of noodle recovery yield after cooking as well as good noodle shapes without being loosened in the boiling water. Jopummil was a semihard type of wheat with 11.5% and 47.7ml of protein content and sedimentation value, respectively and might be suitable for the steam-bread making.
