초록
This study explores double nominative constructions (DNCs), structures where two NPs with the nominative case markers -i/-ka usually appears in order. This peculiar phenomenon raises the question of the real subject in a sentence. In order to address this problem, we group DNCs into three categories based not only on their syntactic structures but also on the relationships between the two NPs: NP1 as the focus or topic, NP1 as the topic, and NP1 as the grammatical subject. When in possessive relations, NP1 moves out of NP2 to satisfy a pragmatic feature such as focus or topic in the first category. In the second category, NP1 is a hanging topic in locative relations between the two NPs. The last category displays a subject-theme relation between the two NPs, with NP1 as the grammatical subject. In terms of Korean postpositional particles, -i/-ka in NP1 is an auxiliary postpositional particle in the first and the second groups, and it is a nominative postpositional particle in the third group.
