레셔의 관점주의에 의하면 인간의 경험은 문화 속에서 획득된 관점에 의존하므로 실재에 대한 객관적 이해는 원천적으로 불가능하다. 화이트헤드의 과정철학에 의하면 인간의 경험은 주관적 요소와 객관적 요소를 모두 가지고 있다. 이때 주관적 요소에 초점을 맞춰 과정철학을 관점주의 또는 상대주의로 이해하는 철학자도 있다. 그러나 화이트헤드의 과정철학이 말하는 주관적 가치평가의 느낌이 객관적 요소를 변형시키거나 또는 의식될 수 없도록 만드는 것은 아니기 때문에 경험 안에 포함된 객관적 요소는 성공적으로 의식될 가능성이 있다. 이런 의미에서 과정철학은 레셔의 관점주의와 같은 의미의 관점주의가 될 수 없다. 다만 경험 안에 포함된 주관적 요소는 서로 다르기 때문에 이런 제한된 의미로서 관점주의라고 부를 수 있을 뿐이다.
Abstract
According to Rescher's perspectivism, because human experiences are based on their perspectives nurtured by culture, it is impossible in principle for human beings to have objective experiences of reality. According to Whiteheadian process philosophy, human experiences have both subjective and objective elements. Focusing on the subjective elements, some philosophers regard process philosophy as a perspectivism. However, because the subjective elements in experience neither transform the objective elements nor prevent the objective elements from arising into consciousness, the objective elements can arise successfully into consciousness. So process philosophy cannot be a perspectivism in the same sense of Rescher's perspectivism. Only in the limited sense that the subjective elements are different from people to people, process philosophy may be called perspectivism.
