Abstract
It has been generally known that the preeminent process theologian, John B. Cobb(1925- ) has developed a christian theology which is based upon the thought of Alfred North Whitehead(1861-1947), This is true but not enough. Because, in the writer's estimation, he seems to insist on the point that Whitehead's Process Philosophy is directly the christian theology today. John Cobb has not spoken of christian theological themes without specific doctrines(equivalent to them) in Whitehead Philosophy. For him, therefore, to give an explanation of christian theology is equal to expounding some aspects of Whitehead's Process Philosophy. With this essay, the writer presents the two points, firstly, how Cobb does overcome the dualism of traditional theologies by Whitehead's virtue of thought and, secondly, that Cobb introduces and systematizes the sufficient naturalism for the christian theology of our time. Because of these, for Cobb theology and philosophy are not distinctive mutually. They are distinctive in the order of themes which must preferentially be paid attentively.
