자크 데리다의 『아카이브 열병(Archive Fever: A Freudian Impression)』(1995)은 데리다가 1994년 런던에서 열린 국제 콜로퀴움에서 주어진 강의를 기초로 한 책이다. 데리다는 발표 장소인 프로이트 문헌소(Freud Archives)를 ‘프로이트의 집’으로서 정신분석과 연결하여 아카이브 너머에의 무의식을 다루고 있다. 글에서 데리다는 아카이브가 어떠한 외부적 장소에서 아카이브를 파멸시키는 것을 목적으로 한다고 쓰고 있다. 이에 본고는 프로이트의 몇 가지 에세이(논문)를 근거로 지연된 사후 작용(deferred action)이 작동하는 방식이 꿈-무의식에서처럼 아카이브의 전제 조건인 망각과 기억에도 소급할 수 있다고 가정했다. 즉, 어떤 대상을 바라보는 관찰자의 실제 움직임으로 인해 과거를 틀 짓는 방식이 우리의 현재 위치에 의존한다고 보았다. 이는 데리다도 언급했듯이 아카이브 자체의 내재적 구조가 라캉의 정신분석학의 관점과도 연결되는 지점이다. 또한 프로이트의 지연된 사후 작용을 설명하는 데에는 ‘대타자의 욕망’이라는 라캉의 욕망이론이 보완을 해야 할 것이다. 이런 데리다의 논의에 의해 추론된 ‘아카이브 아트’는 총체성을 보여주는 새로운 작업이 아니다. 이와 유사한 관점에서 할 포스터의 글 「아카이브 충동(An Archival Impulse)」을 보자면, 아카이브적 충동이 “대체로 상징적인 질서를 방해하는 비뚤어진 계획”이라고 결론 짓는다. 이는 라캉의 구조에서 보자면 대타자(권력자, 아버지, 왕)를 소환하는 식의 보수적 욕망이 아닌 창조적인 구조로 연결되는 과정을 의미한다. 이런 데리다의 논의에 의해 추론된 ‘아카이브 아트’는 결코 총체성을 보여주거나 기억을 그대로 소환하는 작업은 아니다. 본고는 데리다의 글을 통해 아카이브 자체의 욕망이 지연된 사후 작용에 의해 구성된 것으로 보고 데리다의 주이상스적 아카이브 작업에서 긍정성을 찾는 것을 목적으로 한다.
Abstract
Archive Fever: A Freudian Impresion(1995) by Jacques Derrida has its basis on the lecture that took place at an international colloquium in London in 1994. In Freud Archives, Sigmund Freud’s home where Derrida presented his essay Archive Fever: A Freudian Impression, Derrida interrogates psychoanalysis, especially a realm of unconsciousness beyond the archive. Derrida states that the archive aims to deconstruct the notion of archiving in an external space. Based on Freud’s essays, this paper discusses an assumption that the way of deferred action being conducted may be casted from the prerequisite qualities of archive, oblivion and memory, like in the dream-unconsciousness. That is, our current place is a heavily dependent matter on the way a witness’s observation of a subject matter defines the past. As mentioned by Derrida, an immanent structure of archiving aligns with Jacques Lacan’s perspective on psychoanalysis. In explaining one of the keys to Freud’s metapsychological system, ‘deferred action’, understanding the concept of desire that is at the center of Lacan’s theory and practice is substantial. ‘Archive art’, derived from Derrida’s argument, is not a work of totality. A similar perspective, in Hal Foster’s essay ‘An Archival Impulse’(2004), Foster speculates ‘archival impulse’ as an obscure plan disturbing relatively symbolic order. From Lacan’s viewpoint, it means the process of approach to the creative structure rather than a conservative desire of summoning the others (superior, father, king). Referring to Derrida’s essay on archival desire of which underlies a deferred action caused by a desire of the others, this paper aims to find the positivity by navigating through methodological archival work of jouissance.
