鄭道傳의 創業論과 사상사적 위상

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to look into the theory of founding a new nation advocated by Jeong Do-jeon who lived with hard thoughts of the transition era late in Goryeo and early in Joseon and its position on ideological history. He communicated much with the great scholars then to deeply understand the Neo-Confucianism and placed his responsibility on always teaching his followers and defeating heretic. Facing the transition period from a dynasty to another dynasty, he went his way different from that of the other great scholars he used to communicate with. He denied the legitimacy of Goryeo to reform the society and strongly advocated his idea for founding a new nation to justify the founding of Joseon, trying to establish such idea as a theory. He paid attention most onto the issue of social systematical reform, so that he could keep such reality-focused thinking way. His political work to complete the social reform facing the transition period of national system needs to be reevaluated. In general, he has been assessed in binary aspects in Korean ideological history.
