The main findings are as follows. First, high school students who experienced material hardship in recent four years were more likely to show low weight. Second, those who experienced material hardship in higher grades in elementary schools or lower grades in middle schools or those who experienced one type of material hardship sporadically were more likely to show higher levels of withdrawal behaviors. Third, those who experienced material hardship in recent four years, experienced lack of money in paying bills rather than other types of material hardship, or experienced more than two types of material hardship at a time were more likely to show lower levels of academic achievement, especially in the subjects of English and math. Based on the findings, this study suggested relating policies and programs to prevent negative effects of material hardship.
