Abstract
This research discusses that Imagined contact will be an effective method to improve adolescents’ attitudes of muticultural intergroup bullying through the quasi-experiment. Conducted from the late October to early in November, 2011, subjects of the study were 382 students of public middle schools located in Seoul. In the process of the survey, experimental group was asked to imagine positive intergroup contact, and the control group was asked to imagine natural scenery. The dependent variables were measured separately for the attitude of intergroup bullying(group-based emotion and action tendency)The results of verifying the influence of imagined contact are as follows. First, the results showed that imagined contact improved the adolescents’group-based emotional responses of bullying toward the multicultural outgroup. But statistically there was no significant change in action tendency on intergroup bullying. Besides, adolescents’ ability to empathize with others and the school’s intervention against bullying proved to be helpful in improving adolescents’ attitudes toward bullying. Such results give that the native adolescents need to be supplied Imagined contact programs for the prevention of intergroup bullying.
