Abstract

The purpose of this study is to research the level of physical activity effecting positively on prevention of osteoporosis and physical fitness promotion after menopause by analyzing the relations of body composition, bone density, and factors of physical fitness according to physical activities of postmenopausal women using minimal size of Korean International Physical Activity Questionnaire (KIPAQ) which is translated into Korean. Subjects are 152 postmenopausal women who visited A center located on K city, Gyeonggi-do and they were divided into three groups depending on scoring system provided to IPAQ. In statistical treatment, average and standard deviation of all data were calculated using Windows SPSS version 18.0 Program and after conducting One-way ANOVA in order to research the dfferences of body composition, physical fitness, and bone density according to physical activities of postmenopausal women, post hoc tests to above differences were implemented using Bonferroni (continuous data). In order to research the frequency difference in degree of obesity and osteoporosis depending on the degree of physical activity(categorical data). We used Pearson's Correlation to research the relation between variables of physical activity, body composition, physical fitness, and bone density and set all statistical significant levels as α=.05. As a result of comparing body composition & physical fitness by categorizing physical activity as three groups according to IPAQ categorization, it was indicated that 62.16% was in normal range and 37.16% was in obesity range. As a result of researching the relation of body composition, physical fitness, and bone density to physical activities of postmenopausal women, in order to prevent obesity and to promote physical fitness for postmenopausal women, high intensity of physical activity for promoting muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance is needed. In order to prevent osteopenia, it is thought that medium intensity of regular physical activity rather than excessive activity is needed. In order to categorize the groups clearly by measuring correct information (frequency, period, and strength) to physical activity, correctness verification of test tools using objective & subjective tools should be made by considering group characteristics. Also, we suggest the necessity to provide more correct physical activity by defining the relation with health factors which are needed to the group together with theoretical basis.
