Abstract
Economics is a study of explaining and expecting people's choice in various situations. Economists created homo economicus equipped with unlimited rationality. On the contrary, those who choose differently from what neoclassical economic theories describe are easily observed in everyday life. Behavioral economics tries to apply psychological elements to economics to account for the gap between normative and positive analyses. Framing effect, money illusion, sunk cost, and mental accounting are useful in explaining why people's rationality is bounded. This study analyzes Korean people's behavior characterized by bounded rationality. For this purpose, various experiments were carried out, and choices deviated from what neoclassical economic theories expect were widely observed. Even though the individual deviations from rationality are negligible, the aggregated effects may be significant and cause severe business cycles. This implies that economic education should be strengthened to help economic agents choose in a rational manner.
