Abstract

The purpose of this study is to validate the mediating effect of self-discrepancy and fear of negative evaluation in the relationship between rejection sensitivity and internalized shame. To validate the study hypothesis, a survey was conducted on adults aged 20 to 39. Structural equation modeling was performed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. First, there was a positive correlation between rejection sensitivity and internalized shame. Second, self-discrepancy mediated the relationship between rejection sensitivity and internalized shame. Third, fear of negative evaluation mediated the relationship between rejection sensitivity and internalized shame. Fourth, there was a sequential mediating effect in the order of rejection sensitivity, self-discrepancy, fear of negative evaluation, and internalized shame. As a result of the findings, several variables affecting internalized shame were identified. The findings provide guidance for counseling and psychotherapy interventions on internalized shame.
