환변동보험이 기업규모별 수출실적에 미치는 영향에 대한 비교분석

본 연구는 환율변동성이 우리나라 수출액에 미치는 영향과 무역보험에서 환변동보험의 효과를 대기업수출과 중소기업수출로 구분하여 추정하고 유사점과 차이점을 비교한 실증분석이다. 구체적으로 2000년부터 2017년까지의 월별 자료를 이용하여 총수출, 대기업수출과 중소기업수출에 영향을 미치는 설명변수로써 해외소득, 수출가격, 환율과 환율변동성과 환변동보험을 포함하여 연구모형을 설정하고 추정하였다. 특히, 환변동보험의 효과를 직접효과와 간접효과로 구분하고 기업규모별 수출에 미치는 효과를 비교분석하였다. 실증분석결과를 요약하면, 통계적 유의성에서 차이점은 있지만 우리나라 수출액에서 소득효과가 존재하는 것으로 파악되었다. 또한 우리나라의 경우 환율 변동성의 확대는 수출에 부정적인 영향을 미치며, 특히 대기업수출보다 중소기업수출에 더욱 심각한 영향을 준다고 할 수 있다. 더욱 중요한 분석결과는 중소기업수출의 경우에서 환변동보험제도가 수출에 대한 환율변동성의 부정적인 영향을 완화시키는 매개역할을 수행하는 간접효과가 발견되며, 결국 이러한 효과는 중소기업수출의 증대에 기여한다는 점이다. 따라서 본 연구의 분석결과는 최근과 같이 환율의 변동성이 급변하는 시기에는, 중소기업을 대상으로 적극적인 환변동보험에 대한 안내와 지원의 확대 등을 통한 적절한 정책적 대응이 절실하다는 점을 시사한다.
Abstract
This paper examines the empirical evidence for the impact of exchange volatility and the effect of foreign exchange risk insurance on Korea exports. In particular, this study empirically investigates the direct and indirect effects of foreign exchange risk insurance on the impact of exchange rate volatility on Korea exports by firm’s size. Using monthly data on Korea exports of SMEs and large business groups from 2000 to 2017, the effects of income, price, exchange risk, and the direct and indirect effect of foreign exchange risk insurance on the volume of export by firm’s size were investigated. Empirical results indicate that the negative effect of exchange rate volatility are significant on Korea exports. More interestingly they have provided the evidence for the indirect effect in the role of foreign exchange risk insurance on the effect of exchange rate volatility on, particularly, SMEs exports. The results from this paper have a policy implication for the policy authority to consider and promote the role of foreign exchange risk insurance in the effect of exchange rate volatility on Korea SMEs.
