Abstract
Yamaga Soko(1622-1685) emphasized the importance of The Analects. He said, “The Analects is difficult to pass lightly, the words are intimate, but they are applied far, so they are read every day and refreshed every day. Acording to Soko, The Analects is a book that demonstrates the effectiveness of The Great Learning, and is the practice of The Gaining Knowledge through Study of Things in everyday life. In other words, in Soko‘s idea, The Analects is a book that finds truth in everyday life and suggests how to practice it. According to Soko, The Great Learning, which reveals "The Gaining Knowledge through Study of Things," a large program of saint learning, and The Analects is a book that shows concrete ways of practicing it in everyday life. Many chapters of The Analect are described by Soko as The Gaining Knowledge through Study of Things. In addition, Soko acknowledged that ordinary people seek wealth in their everyday lives. He believed that richness and preciousness are the common emotions of the people, because people do not like poor. In the daily life of the traditional society, the relationship between parents and children in the family was important, and the ethics of the family was the central axis of the ethical ethics. Soko argued that the relationship between parents and children in the family was the basis of the human being and criticized the views of Chengzi and Zhuzi's interpretation. In addition, Soko initially denied his involvement with the inner mind by explicitly relating the Jing(敬) to the outward work. On the other hand, analyzing The Analects, Soko argued that Japan was the Central State in ancient East Asia. There are two reasons why Soko could claim that Japan is the Central State. The first is that "Japan is dominant to the many other countries" and "the people are excellent in the whole world". The second is that "the ruling of the saints succeeded," "the culture is brilliant, and the millitary force is strong". Considering that the Central State and neighboring countries in China and Korea were cultural standards, it was very unique that Soko presented the millitary force as one of the reasons why Japan could be called Central State. This idea of Soko continued to Mitogaku and influenced Japan's invasion of Korea and Meiji-Weixin's definition. Through such Soco's interpretation of The Analects, we can see Japanese scholar Soco who is willing to incorporate The New Confucianism into the soil of Japan and the destiny of his theories.
