『孟子』 ‘不得於言, 勿求於心, 不得於心, 勿求於氣’에 대한 莊子적 해석

Abstract

In the First Chapter of Gongsunchou of Mengzi, Gaozi’s words are cited: 不得於言, 勿求於心, 不得於心, 勿求於氣. Traditional interpretations of this passages are different. The modern philosopher Nibison interpreted this passages in the context of stability of mind, and claimed that similar passages in the chapter of In the World of Men of Zhuangzi were also stated in the same context. However, it is relatively clear that Zhuangzi's passages are stated in a cognitive context. Mencius and Zhuangzi were contemporary philosophers, and the statements they quoted are essentially similar. Nevertheless, the two philosophers presuppose different contexts. In this paper, it was revealed that Zhuangzi's similar passages were stated in a cognitive context rather than stability of mind, and demonstrated that Mencius could be interpreted in a cognitive context. By interpreting Mencius's passgaes in a cognitive context, it will be possible to discover discussions about the cognitive aspects that have not yet been revealed in Mengzi and to look at the philosophy of the Warring States period from the cognitive horizon.
