Abstract
I analyze the effects of ASEAN members' economic cooperation on ASEAN members' trade volume using panel gravity model. Previous studies focus on the Common Effective Preferential Treaty(CEPT) or ASEAN Free Trade Area(AFTA)'s effect on ASEAN's total trade volume, not each member's trade. To investigate the effect on each member's trade, I include county and year dummy variables for each trade partners in the gravity model. Based on the estimates of the dummy variables, I could estimate the effect across each member over time. According to this study, each ASEAN member's intra-regional trade was more rapidly expanded compared to trade with non-members. Especially, Indonesia and Thailand's imports from other ASEAN countries increased so rapidly. It means that the two countries more reduced trade barriers to ASEAN member countries than other members. Also, Indonesia and the Philippines' exports to ASEAN countries are more expanded than other members. In addition to that, it was found that impacts of CEPT in 1993 on ASEAN's intra-trade is larger than realization of AFTA in 2003.
