Abstract

Myanmar students in Korea participated in transnational political movements in the process of asking themselves “What is justice?” after the news about the coup in their home country, As the Myanmar military intensified its arrests and detentions, public resistance turned into a “hidden script.” Along with advertising revenue donations such as click2donate, they send donations to acquaintances carrying out the “Spring Revolution” through CDM and PDF, and to communities they meet online. After studying abroad, students who have moved to a safer environment practice transnational political movements in the form of multi-layered transcripts, combining open resistance with hidden scripts. Unlike previous generations, Myanmar students, the younger generation, are characterized by utilizing the language-knowledge system they have acquired and internalized since the reform. In addition to foreign language skills such as Korean and English, transnational networks based on K-pop fan clubs or ethnic minorities are expanding their horizons by forming networks that encompass not only the study abroad destination countries and their home countries but also third countries such as Thailand.
