Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the complex moderating effect of work-family balance perception in the positive relation of job stress of airline flight attendants working on airlines to turnover intention after psychological contract violation. Although most previous studies have been interested in suggesting job stress as a dependent variable and identifying its antecedents factors, this study set job stress as an independent variable and focused on identifying the black box in the relation between job stress and turnover intention, Specifically job stress can lead to a sense of skepticism and disappointment among the organization members and fall short of their expectation consequently, which may lead to turnover intention. Furthermore this study focused on the complex moderating effect of work-family balance perceptions. In terms of affective events theory aspect, the importance of work-family balance is emphasized at the present time, emphasizing the quality of life. In addition, work-family balance perception can induct the positive emotional states of organizational members. After all, it will result in alleviation of the relationship among the job stress, psychological contract violations and turnover intention simultaneously. As a result of empirical analysis of collected data from 230 airline flight attendants, first, psychological contract violation had a positive effect on turnover intention. Second, job stress had a positive effect on psychological contract violation. Third, psychological contract violations had a mediating effect on the relation between job stress and turnover intention. Specifically, job stress has a direct effect on turnover intention, and it also has an indirect effect on turnover intention through psychological contract violation at the same time. Forth, work-family balance perception had a moderating effect in the relation between job stress and psychological contract violation, and the relation between psychological contract violation and turnover intention. The higher the work-family balance perception, the less the positive effects of job stress on psychological contract violation, and less positive effect of psychological contract violation on turnover intention. Finally, it was found that there are complex moderating effects of work-family balance perception in indirect relation between job stress, psychological contract violation and turnover intention. Specifically, the higher work-family balance perception, the less positive effect of job stress on turnover intention after psychological contract violation. Based on these findings, the significances and implications of job stress, psychological contract violation and workfamily balance perceptions on turnover intention were derived.
