Abstract
This study analyzes the present status and changes of Busan service industries utilizing various regional economic data and methodologies. Some important results of this study can be summarized as follows. With the shift to service economy, service industries have already been the major part of the Busan economy. But they have been experiencing the problem of low growth. Considering the shares of service industries in production and employment, it is expected that the low growth of service industries get a negative effect on the whole economic growth in Busan. From the results of shift-share analysis, it is found that since 2002 the increase in employment of service industries had replaced more than the decrease in employment of manufacturing industries. Additionally, with the location quotient analysis it is found that most sub-sectoral service industries could play the growth factors of regional economy in Busan. But there are some structural problems in Busan service industries such as the low productivity of labor.
