A Study for the Role of The Regional R&D Investment in the Production by Pannel and Positioning Analysis

This paper analyses the impact of the R&D of 16 ProvincesㆍCities in the production by the Pannel and positioning analysis. In the 1st step analysis, we look at the general relationship among labor, capital and production. The results show that labor and capital are statistically significant in explaining the production variation, but the total R&D investment is not. However, the time variable does significantly important in explaining the variation of production in Korea's 16 provinces or cities. Based on the 1st step result, the 2nd step analysis tries to show the role of pure R&D investments including government investment and regional investment, varies in the pattern of Pannel models. But, generally the R&D investment does not statistically significant in the short term but as time goes by statistically significant in the long term base. Lastly, by the comparing the 16 provinces and metropolitan cities in Korea in terms of R&D investment and production, Chungnam-do, Kyunggi-do, Incheon-si, Kwangju-si have shown very effective role of R&D investment in explaining the variation of Production, however, Daegu-si, Chungbuk-do, and Pusan-si have shown poor relative efficiency for the production structure with R&D investment.
