Abstract

The physical activity prevalence in Community Health Survey(CHS) has limitation that do not meet “the Physical Activity Guide for Koreans”. The purpose of this study is to identify the cause of limitation and suggest the improvement measures after reviewing the indicator of prevalence and survey contents in CHS. For the study, the questions, results, and analysis methods of the annual CHS were compared with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and reports, research papers and various materials related to this study. As a result of this study, the limiting factor of the CHS was assessed by intensity rather than by the amount of physical activity. The improvement measures based on the problems are as follows. The indicator should be changed to “aerobic physical activity prevalence” and the definition of indicator should be changed to “percentage of physical activity among adults with a total of 600 MET‧min‧wk-1 or more”. In addition, the survey contents and guideline should be changed the intensity notation, definition of each intensity, and example of vigorous-intensity occupational activity, the intention to exclude walking from the moderate-intensity question, and the type of physical activity in the survey guideline should be reconsidered. Also, the domain should be added to the walking question, and the minimum physical activity time should be deleted. Therefore, the policymakers should be consider the problems identified in this study, then reestablish the goal of physical activity evaluation in CHS and also improve the analysis method, indicator of prevalence and survey contents.
