Abstract

Although only a very small number of ancient documents issued in the late Goryeo Dynasty have been discovered so far, research on these official documents has been conducted steadily since 2000. Among them, several items that require reexamination or additional research at the present time have been summarized. First, the extant copy of the royal decree issued by King Gongmin to Jeong Gwangdo, the mayor of Bokju-mok, in 1360 is a later copy. The academic community needs to have an accurate understanding of this fact, and academic research results on the authenticity of the royal decree from the late Goryeo Dynasty that was handed down to the descendants of the Jinyang Ha clan should be accumulated. Second, the official appointment letter issued to Shin Woo in 1344 is an original document in the wangji format issued in the late Goryeo period. Up to now, this is the only original document in the wangji format from the late Goryeo period that has been confirmed, and it is noteworthy that a seal engraved with the Phags-pa script ‘bumagoryeogukwang’ was confirmed. Third, the document issued in 1281 and transmitted to Songgwangsa Temple should be reexamined from the perspective that it is not ‘Seonjeonsosik(宣傳消息)’ but a royal decree issued with the seal of the King of Goryeo. It is possible to examine whether it can be considered ‘Sapae(賜牌)’ among the royal decree documents of the Goryeo Dynasty. Fourth, it is reasonable to regard all six certificates of passing the civil service examination in the late Goryeo Dynasty as Hongpae (紅牌) in terms of the government system. In addition, the Hongpae of the late Goryeo Dynasty were basically official documents issued by the government office with an official seal, but from Choi Gwangji’s Hongpae in 1389, all Hongpaes issued throughout the Joseon Dynasty were elevated in status to royal command documents. Fifth, the document issued by Princess Deoknyeong, the queen of the deceased King Chungryeol, to the mayor of Cheongju-mok in 1349 was an official document issued in the form of an official document. Additional research is needed on the hierarchy of the issuer of this document, the document format, etc.
