Ferroptosis is a type of programmed cell death distinct fromapoptosis or necroptosis. Ferroptosis is well characterized byan iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxides and disruptionof cellular membrane integrity. Many metabolic alterationscan prevent or accelerate ferroptosis induction. Recent advancesin analytical techniques of mass spectrometry have allowedhigh-throughput analysis of metabolites known to be criticalfor understanding ferroptosis regulatory metabolism.
