본 연구는 자료포락분석(DEA)을 채택하여 우리나라 상장기업의 재무업적을 특징지우는 다양한 척도들을 종합적으로 이용하여 다양한 재무척도 간의 상충(trade-off)을 인정하는 다요인 재무업적모델을 결정하기 위한 것이다. 본 연구는 우리나라 상장기업의 업적에 대해 분석하고 대안적 전망과 특징을 제시해 준다. 수익기준으로 상위에 랭크되어 있는 기업들이라고 해서 반드시 다면적으로 평가되는 업적에 있어서도 상위에 랭크되지는 않는다는 것이 드러나고 있다. 극히 일부의 기업들만이 최대효율선에서 활동하고 있으며, 대부분의 기업들은 심각한 기술적 및 규모비효율을 보이고 있다. 상대적으로 대규모(수익기준)기업들은 수확체감규모를 보이고 있고 그 외의 기업들은 수익체증규모를 보이고 있다. 따라서 대부분의 기업들이 규모를 늘림으로써 규모효율을 증대시킬 수 있을 것으로 드러났다. 투입물 과잉에 대한 분석은 현재의 종업원, 자산 및 주주지분의 수준의 감소가 실질적으로 수익과 이익수준을 증가시킬 수 있음을 보이고 있다. 이러한 다면적 업적평가 모델을 이용하면 경영자들에게 경영개선의 정책적 함의를 제시할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper utilizes tools for reconciling diverse measures which characterize the financial performance of Korean listed companies of year 2005. The technology of data envelopment analysis(DEA) is used to determine a multi-factor financial performance model which inherently recognizes tradeoffs among various financial measures. This study gives an alternative perspective and characterization on the performance of Korean listed companies. It is found that the top-ranked companies by revenue do not always have top-ranked performance viewed as being multidimensional. Only part of the listed companies were operating on the best-practice frontier. Subtantial technical and scale inefficiencies are found. Decreasing return to scale(DRS) are uncovered among the relatively large(revenue-top-ranked) companied. The study of congestion shows that a reduction in current levels of employees, assets and equities may actually increase revenues and profits levels.
