JIT 생산에 관한 문헌들은 재공품재고와 생산성 간에 상관관계가 있음을 암시하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 관계가 국내 자동차기업들의 경우에 대해 통계적으로 검증된 적은 거의 없었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 관계가 자동차기업들의 경우에도 적용되는지를 통계적으로 검증해보고자 125개 국내 자동차기업들의 재무제표 자료를 이용하여 재공품재고와 생산성간의 관계를 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 2000년에서 2010년까지 재공품재고율이 2% 정도로 일정하게 유지되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 이변량상관관계분석을 이용하여 분석한 결과 노동생산성과 재고자산회전율의 경우 음의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 자본생산성의 경우 양의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 재공품재고가 감소할수록 노동생산성과 재고자산회전율이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 자본생산성의 경우 음의 상관계수가 아닌 양의 상관계수의 결과 값에 대해서는 추후 추가적인 연구가 필요한 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 재공품재고가 생산성에 유의적인 영향을 미치는지를 회귀분석을 이용하여 분석한 결과 재공품재고가 자본생산성, 노동생산성 및 재고자산회전율 모두 통계적으로 유의적인 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
The literature on JIT production suggests a causal link between work-in-process inventory and manufacturing productivity. Such a connection has been described in numerous case studies but never tested statistically. This paper uses financial statement data for 125 automotive companies to evaluate the work in process inventory-productivity relationship. The results are as follows. Firstly, we found that WIP rates of 125 firms are constantly keeping 2% for every year during 2000 to 2010. Secondly, we found that there is a - correlation between labor productivity and inventory turnover ratio, and a + correlation between capital productivity and inventory turnover ratio. Thirdly, we found that work-in-process inventory significantly affects on the capital productivity, labor productivity, and inventory turnover ratio.
