남병무예가 왜 조선 군영에서 장기간 활용되었으며, 용도는 무엇이었는지, 어떻게 조선의 자국화에 영향을 미치었는지를 살피는 것이 이 연구의 목표이다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 남병무예는 조선 조정의 중화주의와 재조지은(再造之恩)의 분위기 속에서 임진왜란부터 19세기까지 장기간 군영의 주요 무예항목 중 하나였다. 조선에서 남병무예는 전쟁뿐만이 아니라 내란을 대비한 친위부대 무예로도 적극 활용되었다. 진법무예 외에 도약과 회전 등 기동성을 갖춘 기법적 특성을 나타낸다. 조선조정이 투로(套路) 형식의 무예체계를 선택한 요인은 다음과 같다. 첫 번째 기록과 기법 표준화에 유리하며 안정적인 평가가 가능했기 때문이다. 두 번째, 무예 도입의 주관자였던 왕이나 문인 관료들은 보(譜)와 투로를 동일시했으며, 투로 훈련으로 무예를 온전하게 익힐 수 있다고 생각했기 때문이다. 세 번째, 명의 무예교사 일부가 투로 위주의 무예를 전했을 가능성도 있다.
Abstract
The goal of this study is to examine why Southern Troops Martial Arts was used for a long time in the Joseon military camp, what was its purpose, and how it influenced the nationalization of Joseon. The results of the study are as follows. Southern Troops Martial Arts was one of the major martial arts items of the military for a long time from the Imjin War to the 19th century in the atmosphere of Chineseism and grace saved by the Ming Dynasty of the Joseon Dynasty. In Joseon, Southern Troops Martial Arts were actively used not only as war but also as a military martial arts in preparation for civil war. In addition to battlefield martial arts, it shows technical characteristics with mobility such as leap and rotation. The factors that the Joseon Dynasty chose the martial arts system in the form of a Taolu(套路) are as follows. First, it is advantageous for standardizing records and techniques, and stable evaluation was possible. Second, the king and literary officials who were the organizers of the introduction of martial arts identified text (譜) and Taolu, and thought that martial arts could be fully learned through Taolu training. Third, there is a possibility that some martial arts teachers from the Ming Dynasty mainly transferred to Taolu, not actual martial arts, in Joseon.
