대학과목선이수제(AP)의 효과에 관한 과학기술특성화대학 재학생의 인식

본 연구에서는 과학고 및 영재학교에서 AP를 경험한 특성화대학 재학생을 대상으로 설문조사와 면담을 통해 과학영재들이 지각하는 AP프로그램에 대한 인식과 대학생활에 미치는 효과에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 영재학교에서 AP과목을 이수하고 특성화대학에서 학점인정을 받은 대학생 90명을 대상으로 AP제도에 대한 인식, AP이수현황 및 AP제도의 영향 및 활용방안 등에 대한 설문조사를 실시하였고, 추가적으로 영재학교 학생 9명을 대상으로 심층면담을 통해 과학영재들에게 AP제도 및 수업에 대한 인식과 효과를 통해 AP제도의 의미를 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, AP제도에 대해서는 필요성을 높게 인식하였으며, 특히 과학고 학생들이 고등학교 때에 비해 AP제도에 대한 인식이 긍정적으로 변화된 것으로 나타났다. AP제도는 학생들에게 상급수준의 교육기회를 제공해 준다는 점을 가장 큰 장점으로 인식하였으나, 특성화대학에서만 AP제도를 인정해 준다는 점을 제한점으로 인식하였다. 둘째, AP수업의 경우 학생들은 1~3과목 정도 이수한 경우가 가장 많았고, 해당 분야에 흥미와 관심이 많아 AP과목을 이수한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 고등학교의 AP수업이 대학보다 학생 수가 적고 교사의 열정이 높으며 공부시간을 많이 사용한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 과학영재들은 6~10학점 정도 학점인정을 받은 경우가 가장 많았고, 학점인정을 통해 부전공 및 복수전공 선택에 활용하는 경우가 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 학생들은 AP제도가 대학수업 적응이나 고등학교에서의 심화교육 기회 확대에 도움이 되었다고 인식하였다. AP제도의 효과에 대해서는 과학고와 영재학교 졸업생들 간의 인식차이가 있었으며, 영재학교 졸업생은 대학수업 적응, 과학고 졸업생은 고등학교에서의 심화교육 기회 확대에 가장 효과적이라고 인식하였다. 본 연구결과는 향후 AP제도의 개선방안 및 발전에 있어 시사점을 제공해 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the perception and outcome of Advanced Placement Program for gifted students of 5 Science and Technology Universities. For this study, 90 gifted students of science and technology universities who were taken AP courses from gifted high schools and science high schools were surveyed and 9 gifted students who were taken AP courses and waived college credit were interviewed regarding the meaning of AP program. The results showed as follows. First, students perceived that AP program was necessary for science gifted students but there are some pros and cons. However, the expansion of other universities which approve AP courses were needed. Secondly, 51.7% of science gifted students have taken 1~3 AP courses and perceived that AP courses in high school were high –quality courses in class size and teacher passion compared to college courses. Students perceived positively regarding AP courses because AP courses were interesting and challenging academic program and students earned college credit. Finally, students were using AP credit for double majors, undergraduate research activities and students activities rather than early graduation and exchange program. Students perceived that taking AP courses improved adaptation of college courses, academic motivation in higher level, and satisfaction of college life. Also, there were differences in effects of AP courses between gifted high school students and science high schools. Implications of the study were discussed in depth based on the results.
