본 연구는 과학영재들의 인지적 역량 신장과 지적 욕구 충족을 목적으로, 과학영재학교와 과학고등학교에서 2013년부터 운영된 공동AP 제도의 10년간 운영 성과와 이에 대한 학생들의 인식을 분석하고자 수행되었다. 공동AP 제도의 운영 성과를 분석하기 위해 영재학교 및 과학고등학교에서의 공동AP 교과목 개설 및 수강 현황을 조사하였으며, 학생들의 인식을 파악하기 위해 설문조사와 포커스 그룹 인터뷰(FGI)를 병행하였다. 공동AP 수강 경험이 있는 대학생 및 대학원생 25명이 FGI에 참여하였고, 영재학교 및 과학고등학교 졸업생 233명이 설문에 응답하였다. 분석 결과, 공동AP 제도는 모든 영재학교와 대부분의 과학고등학교에서 다양한 교과목을 통해 활발히 운영되어 왔으며, 연구 참여자들 또한 해당 제도를 전반적으로 긍정적으로 평가하고 대학생활에도 도움이 되었다고 응답하였다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로, 과학영재를 위한 공동AP 제도의 활성화를 위한 제언과 향후 연구 방향을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Over the past decade, the Advanced Placement (AP) program has been implemented in science high schools and schools for gifted students in science to meet their advanced cognitive abilities and intellectual needs. This study investigates the outcomes of the AP program over the past ten years and examines students' perceptions of the program. To assess the implementation, the study analyzed the status of AP courses offered at gifted science schools and science high schools. In addition, a focus group interview (FGI) was conducted with 25 university and graduate students to explore in-depth perspectives on the program. A total of 233 alumni from these specialized schools also participated in a survey assessing general perceptions on AP program. The findings indicate that the AP program has been actively implemented with a diverse range of subhects in all schools for gifted students and the majority of science high schools. Participants generally expressed positive evaluations of the program, recognizing its contribution to their academic readiness for university-level coursework. Based on these results, the study proposes recommendations to further enhance the effectiveness of the AP program and outlines directions for future research.
